Eye floaters, also referred to as eye flashes are deposits of different shapes and sizes that float within the eyes. The condition is caused by degenerative changes of the vitreous humor, which is the clear gel inside the eyeball.

Some of the causes of eye floaters include inflammation, eye infections, damage to the eye and wounds. A sudden spike in floaters can be one of the major signs of severe eye issues including retinal detachment. With age, the numbers of floaters in the eyes tend to increase.

While minor cases of floaters can be cured with anti-inflammatory medicines, organic extracts and antibiotic drops, laser light treatments and surgery work best for severe conditions.

Here are some ways to get rid of eye floaters naturally.

Relax the eyes – Rub your palms together and generate heat. Cover your eyes with your hands for few seconds. Repeat around 5 times. Do this every day for best results. Roll your eyes in circular clockwise and anti-clockwise motion. Do it slowly. Do this exercise around 10 times.

Focusing – Hold a pencil or a finger in front of you with your hand straight ahead. Look at the finger and then slowly move it closer to your eyes. Focus on it for a few seconds and then again take the hand back to the original position.

Dietary supplements – Certain nutritional supplements may be good to get rid of eye floaters. It can be helpful to take antioxidant rich foods including rose hips and turmeric.

Manage stress levels – High stress can also cause eye floaters. Therefore, it is helpful to practice stress management techniques. Breathing techniques, meditation, yoga and spending time amidst nature can help decrease stress levels considerably.

Massaging the temple – Gently massage your forehead in areas in between your eyebrows in clockwise direction at least 10 times. Repeat the same process in anti-clockwise direction 10 times.

Drink water – Sometimes floaters can also be due to accumulation of toxins in the body. Drinking plenty of water is the best way to eliminate such toxins from your system. When the body is free of the wastes, you have less chances of being affected by eye floaters.

Eat bilberry – Bilberry is one of the well-known foods to help prevent eye floaters. It is rich in antioxidants and is known to strengthen retinal tissue. It can help in enhancing eye function.

Use sunglasses – The direct rays of the sun can be very harmful to the eyes. So, make sure to wear sunglasses whenever you are outside on a sunny day. Doing this helps to reduce sun exposure and is good to manage the condition.

Eat and drink organic substances – Taking organic supplements is helpful to avoid eye floaters. Drinking different types of vegetable and fruit juices is great for your eye sight. Take foods such as thyme, raspberries, apples, parsnip, beets, celery and carrots to avert eye floaters.

Avoid coffee and alcohol – The beverages tend to have a bad impact on the eyes. It is best to reduce your consumption of both of them. It is also a good idea to completely give up smoking to help improve your eye health.

If you have eye floaters, the above tips can help you deal with it. Although floaters are a normal part of the aging process and can be handled by these natural treatment methods, some rare cases may also require medical intervention. It is important that you get your eyes checked by an ophthalmologist or optometrist at least once a year and more so if you have certain medical conditions such as diabetes.
