Bimatoprost is one of the most common medicines that are used for the treatment of Hypotrichosis. Hypotrichosis is a term used for the low hair growth or lack of hair.

Eyelash Hypotrichosis on the other hand is the specific Hypotrichosis that is used to refer the inadequate amount of eyelashes. Hypotrichosis is characterized by thin, sparsely placed and very average number of eyelash hair.

Human eyelashes:

Humans have eyelashes covering the lower and upper eyelids of each eye. The number of eyelashes on upper eyelids is more than the lower eyelid eyelashes. Eyelashes are terminal hair and are thicker and longer in comparison to the other terminal hair on the face like facial hair. Of the whole body hairs eyelashes have the most diameter. The length of the eyelashes depends on various things such as the ethnicity of the individual. Each eyelash hair undergoes a growth cycle involving: anagen phase of 30 days, catagen phase of 15 days and Telogen phase of 100 days, after which the detachment of the hair from the hair follicle takes place. Hence, a single eyelash undergoes a life cycle length of average 3-6 months.

Causes of Hypotrichosis:

Eyelashes are hereditary in nature and if you are the person belonging to a lineage of thin eyelashes, then automatically you are bound to have short eye lashes. On the other hand eyelash loss can also occur as a result of ageing, disease or any medical treatment like chemotherapy. In some cases the allergic reaction to some substance or medicine may also cause a loss of eyelashes. Sometimes physical trauma occurring in the face, eyes or trichotillomania can also cause thin or sparse eyelashes.

Effect of loss of eyelashes:

Loss of eyelashes is natural, but too much eyelash thinning and loss may result in various kinds of harmful body difficulties. Eyelash loss breaks the protective barrier between the eyes and the harsh outer environment. They protect the sensitive eyes from sunlight, wind, dust and other kinds of external conditions.

The eyelashes are sensitive to the sensations of touch and whenever something comes in contact with eyelashes our eyelids immediately shut down to close and protect the eyes. Loss of eyelashes or Hypotrichosis causes the eyes to become more vulnerable. Eyelashes also define the aesthetic appearance of the eyes.

Treatment of eyelash loss or Hypotrichosis:

For the treatment of Hypotrichosis, you can use one of the best products available in market i.e. Careprost. It is a revolutionary product with great potential to improve the thickness and length of eyelashes.  The active ingredient present in Careprost is Bimatoprost ophthalmic 0.03%. The Careprost solution uses bimatoprost that is approved by FDA for the use of eyelash Hypotrichosis.

Bimatoprost works by binding to the prostaglandin receptors present in the hair follicles. Being a prostaglandin it stimulates the hair follicle growth and also increases the anagen phase or growth phase of the hair cycle.

It thus supports the growth of long hair. Bimatoprost also increases the size of dermal papillae as a result of which thickening of hair occurs. Similarly, it is also known to stimulate the melanocyte cells that are helpful in making the eyelash hair become darker.

Thus, Careprost is a product that does three things in one go. It helps to make the eyelashes, longer, thicker and darker.

Way to use Careprost:

Before applying Careprost it is necessary that you do a complete cleaning of the face and hands. You should remove any eye makeup or contact lenses if present. Now place a drop of the Careprost solution on the applicator brush and apply on the upper eyelash line. Do not apply on the  lower lash line. Use a new brush for each application. Repeat the process on other eye. Use the product daily for 4 months to get the desired results.

You will start noticing the difference with 3-4 weeks, but carry on the daily application till you get the desired length of lashes. After that you can reduce the application of the solution 3 times a week to maintain the length.
